On the Greek island
of Spetses the training course "The power of non-formal education"
took place from 11 to 16 June 2019. The training course was international
nature because participants were from different countries in Europe.
The course was four days, and every day had planned different teachings in the morning and in the
afternoon. Each of these areas were divided according to the objective to be achieved. The red part is
destined for discovery, the yellow part for practical activities on non-formal education, the blue part
about the concept of non-formal education, the orange was dedicated to work what was called "Power
to the people". And the green for the evaluation. There were areas much more dynamic than others,
and others in which reflection was more prominent.
Throughout the day, all areas had been tried and taught by the three teachers of the training course in
each of them. One of the first activities, and of which I liked and learned the most, was about learning
by discovery. Depending on what you choose from a paper, you would be classified by teams, and by
teams you worked on origami, making sand balls or figures with balloons. In this first contact with the
activities there were some marked objectives of what you wanted to do. For example, in my team I had
to make an origami frog, and nobody on the team knew how to do it. And the same thing happened with
other teams, they were given some instructions and they had to do it, although they also did not know
how. Later in each of the stops there were posters with steps to do things or books explaining how to
do things. The objective of the activity was to learn something when it was finished.
I liked this activity because it was based on the knowledge of each participant facing
a very simple activity, which is usually thought to be done, but not really. After this, the necessary instruments are provided to be able to do it
and carry it out. Another activity that surprised me a lot and that I learned a lot about was "Plan B". In
this activity the participants were grouped into three teams, and we had to create a city. The first thing
that was done was a flag, a name and what values would represent us. After this, on a map we would
find out what our area would be, how much money we would have to build houses, and how we would
have to negotiate with other teams to create a communication network between our cities. However,
this activity was not limited to teaching how to manage a city, but in the values that we can learn. For
example, there were some participants who gave away money or houses, in reality they represented the
role of the corrupt without the rest of the participants knowing about it. Another of the lessons was the
inequality that could be given to one group in relation to others, and that is that my group (group number
3) were going to be ignored or treated with indifference within the activity by the teachers, without us
let's know The area assigned to our group was smaller, we had less money, we had fewer resources (trees),
we were assigned more refugees, during the presentation we had less time, the colors for our flag were
darker, they did not explain anything to us and Whenever we were going to buy houses, they raised the
price. At the end of the activity they explained to us that situations like this are more common than they
seem and that there are groups that due to their origin have more disadvantages than other groups. It was
an activity in which I learned a lot and without any doubt, with different objectives can be carried out in
many situations.
Of the course I emphasize the treatment of the professors that was excellent and the one of the coursemates, that in a little time a great bond was created. The best thing was to share experiences, since we were many people from different places and it is always great to learn from other people. Although also the island where the training course took place was really beautiful. I did not know about this place, but it was really lovely, and it was lovely to be in this place.
