YMAT Thessaloniki

On February 4, the event for the "Youth Activities" project of YMAT took place in Thessaloniki. Specifically, the event was held on Monday, February 4, 2019, at 7:00 p.m., in Warehouse C in the Port of Thessaloniki. There were representatives from many organizations, including Pythia Koinsep, and politicians from the Goverment of Greece, such as Katerina Notopoulou. The event was developed explaining some of the programs that were supported with the Neas Genia´s project.

The Neas Genia’s program focuses on working the principles and objectives for young people in Greece, taking into account the modern transformations of young people and their sociological, economic and cultural dimensions. This is intended to involve young people in the political life of Greece. For this, the Greek government will use indicators, mechanisms and monitoring procedures to evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of the various tools, actions and programs. And consequently can adapt applied policies. At the same time, it is these directions that support the needs of youth at the local level. In the event was Katerina Notopoulou from the Ministry of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, and she says that "The goal of the YMCA is to contribute through the program to the improvement of the participation of young people in the social, economic and cultural life of their local communities, to the development of new innovative forms of youth participation and networks, to the awareness and participation of young people in sustainable management and conservation of natural resources, promoting the participation of young people in cultural life and promoting their creativity".
The Nea Genia’s project 2017-2027 is structured according to the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals.
• Promoting Self-reliance and Independence of Youth and Facilitating their Advent in Adult Life
• Affordable and Quality Education-Training-Apprenticeship
• Decent Work and Development of Youth Entrepreneurship
• Health, Welfare and Well being
• Strengthening Youth Participation in Democratic Life
• Reducing inequalities among young people
• Youth friendly cities and the demographic renewal of the periphery

These targets reflect both the way that the State understands the youth’s role in the political, social and economic life, as well as, the measures and initiatives that could constitute a favorable environment for supporting and empowering young people. The selected proposals will be presented by the organisations. Within this program is the present project that we will carry out from Pythia, related to the recycling of the waste in the blue cube. Pythia is one of the beneficiaries of the Nea genia project, which is based on the teaching of correct recycling.

In this way it is goint to work with the young population, learn the correct use of the blue bin and promote the culture of recycling among the young population. In this project I have been directly involved, because during the creation I have contributed ideas in some of the materials that are used. This experience has led me to learn a lot, since I have seen how a real-world environmental project works, and even more so in a state-level project. For me these kinds of experiences are the ones that teach me the most, because for me it is important to learn how they develop in real life.
