The spa at the Elefthers thermal spring is located 45
km west of the city of Kavala, on the coastal road to Thessaloniki, in a
strategic location with easy access. Very close to the junction of the Egnatia
highway, in the Strymon River Delta. Eleutheros Baths is a cutting-edge
investment, since it is possible to create a modern European spa center for rejuvenation and wellness with specifications that will make it competitive for the next 40 to 50 years. They consist of a property of approximately 780 acres in a wooded area and are 1 kilometer from the sea. The vast valley that flows through the Marmara River has already been declassified in some 21 hectares, an area capable of rebuilding a new state-of-the-art hospital, as well as accommodation and restoration facilities with a total capacity of approximately 400 beds.
The basic composition of water is chlorosodium in the presence of hydrogen sulfide. The total surface area at present is approximately 267 cubic meters per hour, while it is predicted with the proper cultivation of some ravines to increase this supply. The water temperature ranges between 37 and 41.5
degrees Celsius. These healing waters cure even many chronic diseases. Sulfur springs are ideal for muscular and skeletal disorders, circulatory dermatitis, asthma inhalation therapy, etc. Today, in the bathrooms there is a physiotherapy center that works by appointment and there is a 24-hour medical coverage. It has capacity for 228 people in its shelters and the restaurant is open from morning to night.Today 31 buildings are kept in the bathrooms. The oldest of the surviving buildings is an Ottoman bathroom of the late eighteenth century. The area was transformed into a spa town when, in 1908-1910,the smoker Zachos Zachos took charge of its exploitation by the Ottoman state. Its design was made by the architect Aristotle Zachos. The buildings that are attributed to it are the AnfĂpolis and Paggaio hotels and the ground floor of the restaurant building. Due to the long distance of the spa town from some settlement in it, several stores were built, such as an oven and a grocery store. The buildings in the spa town continued to build throughout the twentieth century, forming a small settlement, which is now abandoned. Around 21 hectares of forest have been declassified to rebuild a new hospital and a lodging and restoration facility with a total capacity of approximately 400 beds.
In mid-2016, the fire destroyed part of the hotel "Pangeo" in Loutra Eleftheron. This building was built in the 1920s, and is the largest settlement. Architecturally, it presents elements of the modern movement, while its dominant construction has been an extraordinary interior double staircase of wood, whose destruction was completed with the fire.
